Durham District School Board (DDSB) supports students and their families. We provide child care programs, academic help, and health and wellness initiatives. You can get involved with the DDSB by volunteering in a school to support your child's education.

The Library Learning Commons contains a variety of resources to help support you academically. We also provide homework help through the Mathify program.

Harmony Heights School Council Meeting
Date: December 5th, 2022 Location: Bollocks Pub
The SCC meeting was called to order by Gurleen Saggu at 6:05pm and a quorum was present.

- No change to accounts in November
- December Report:
- Expenses for the Santa breakfast have been $406.79. Still need to purchase fruit, yogurt, and other things that will add to this.
- Revenue $60.70
- Balance $4890.20
 Principals report:
- Conversation about keeping donations local. Non-denominational causes. Nadine mentions the Make A Difference Depot.
- PC Charity Grant yet to be applied for
- Approved for Washer/Dryer for PLP program.
- Sound system update
- Projector was delayed
- Divided the invoices so we paid part now the rest later.
- $3500 has been fundraised so far
- Holiday breakfast tickets still available
 Other school reports or presentations:
- No reports or presentations on other schools were presented.
 Previous and new business:
- Item 1 - Plastic tablecloths. Gurleen purchased a roll of tablecloths - plain white and decorated. Plain white was less expensive. Council discussed going with the cheaper option. Cost comparison to be completed for individual table cloths versus the roll. Will need two rolls. Colors for tablecloths will be white and silver. If silver can’t be found blue will be purchased. Table cloths needed for eating tables, serving tables, and craft tables for both seatings. Need 40 tablecloths total.
- Item 2 - Raffle basket update. 4 baskets yet to be assembled. Nadine has volunteered to complete these. SCC members are asked to help with set up on Friday afternoon.
- Item 3 - Things left to be purchased are the perishable foods.
- Item 4 - Tables from kindergarten rooms/kid rooms for crafts.
- Item 5 - Discussion about Santa on the floor versus the stage. Final of decision on layout will be determined on setup day when final numbers are delivered.
- Item 6 - List of approved volunteers
- Caryn is making name tags for volunteers so they are identified.
- LIst will be available at the check in desk
- Item 7 - Gloves to be worn by food prep/servers
- Item 8 - Set up for the event is anytime after 3pm Friday, Dec 9th.
- Item 9 - Volunteers/SCC members to arrive at school for 7am on the day of the event.
- Item 10 - DJ needs to be booked for danceathon and grad but we need to decide on dates.
- Grad - June 22nd, 2023
- Danceathon - May 6th last year.

Harmony Heights School Council - Winter Breakfast Subcommittee Meeting

 The SCC meeting was called to order by Gurleen Saggu (Chair) at 6:13pm and a quorum was present.

We are assigning tasks to SCC members to focus on those tasks.

COOKING DUTIES:
Lydia is good for cooking pancakes and Nergiz, Sheena, Jason for cooking pancakes. Sherry to assist with batter.

GREETERS:

Nadine Thompson and Caryn Craggs, maybe Melissa David as well if she isn’t occupied elsewhere

CRAFTS:

Karen and Lindsay leading up to the event, planning crafts, highschool volunteers minimal supervision, refill stations as needed, reindeer food, check with Melissa David for school supplies that we HAVE rather than needing to buy new stuff

SANTA CLAUS

Jaunna to take lead on this, crowd control and time management, Nadine found a Santa

Sheena asked about Gift Letters, pick up from the office from Cristina and cross reference which companies have already been approached. 

OPERATIONS/LOGISTICS

-       Need to come up with a list of things needed to purchase, pancake mix (how much needed?), syrup, yogurt (whatever is on sale),       bananas/clementines/apples, coffee, tea, hot chocolate (HOT WATER), plates/cutlery/bowls/napkins, juice boxes (Apple and Fruit Punch), milk/creamer for coffee/tea, coffee cups, cases of water, toppings, butter, chocolate chips, disposable tablecloth rolls (100ft $23/roll), need dedicated person assigned to monitor hot water/coffee stations, nut free/gluten free - reach out to families who have allergies, FORM FOR FAMILIES needs to include dietary restrictions, what a kid would want vs what an adult would want may be different,  Myanna will look after disposable table cloths

Ticket prices:
- $ 6 each (no family rate), for families that can’t afford it, gifted tickets from the school, Cash Online for tickets, Cash ONLY at the event for Raffle Tickets, RSVP due December 3rd 

Magician will be present (Graham) and the Breakfast timeslots are 8:30-10 and 10:30-12:00, with 20 minutes of magic during each sitting.

School Update:

$15,000 for sound equipment (vetted by the Board), equipment by Spectro Data

Gurleen mentions Myanna has made an agenda.

We are focusing on branding it as a holiday breakfast rather than red/green/Christmas. Going over the binder, which has a lot of information presently, and building on the binder plus adding our own touch.

Today’s goal is to divide and conquer for each tasks:

Decor

Craft Table, Food (buying and making), Prizes (raffle baskets)

Theme of breakfast - Inclusivity

 How can we involved this theme in the holiday breakfast

Lydia spoke:

Paint a picture of structure of the event, infrastructure of school/cook the breakfast/locate everything appropriately, can only use certain plugs, used room 7 PLP class - has sink - but you can’t plug things in to the same socket, staff room does not work, connect with Angela Hurlburt to determine what is where so we can no blow fuses, music room suggested by Christina Cox, sink, two griddles owned by SCC (we will need to borrow griddles, Nadine, Gurleen and Lindsay will bring a griddle), need chafing dishes, hot chocolate, water, coffee, drink boxes, Nadine purchased sugar for 1.50 x 2 bags, pancakes, syrups, oatmeal, oranges (clementines), bananas, yogurt, chocolate chips, whip cream, syrup, need separate griddle for peanut free/dairy free/egg free, 7am start for volunteers, coffee urns (2) owned by SCC and Gurleen has two extra coffee urns, every cooking station needs: Griddle, flipper, measuring cup, mixing bowl, whisks, baskets for fruits - in SCC storage, Zack’s mom Carol works at Tim Hortons, Myanna is going to ask her for donations, need prizes for raffles too, Lindsay volunteered to do the posters, prices (last year) $6.00 and $25 for family of 5, raffle ticket cost, themes for baskets

 Principal Report:

  • Renovations done for intermediate rooms
  • PLP renovations have started in Room 10 and there will be a new washroom added
  • Work Order has been put in for painting of the front door of the school 
  • Next year DDSB Facilities will look into redoing the stairs at the front of the school and school sign
  • Stephanie Vessey has joined kindergarten class as new ECE 
  • Reminder about Boomerang Lunches so we can all do our part in making school eco-friendly
  • No VP backup this year - we need to have 350 students attending
  • More than $5000 raised for Terry Fox Run
  • Request from school staff for consideration by SCC:

-Purchase and mounting of speakers and data projector in gym

-More chromebooks needed for class use in Grades 4 and 5

Treasurer's Report

Report given by Caryn Craggs.  The opening balance for 2022-2023 is $4,730.49 in the school SCC account and there is $2,061.63 in the Raffle account.  Statements were handed out to all parents.
